A product’s journey at our warehouse

Hundreds of products enter our warehouse each day. Every single product must go through our refined process to make sure they reach their destination safely and efficiently. But what does that journey look like? For the first time, we open our doors for you to have a look around in our warehouse. You will travel alongside a product, and witness all the stops it makes at our warehouse before being sent off to the buyer.

It’s early morning when a truck full of TVs arrives at our warehouse in Almere. The sun just came up as our informed staff is already waiting at the dock, prepared to receive the load. After a short chat with the driver about his new navigation system, some crucial paperwork is handled. The products are now ready to be taken to the next location inside the warehouse. Depending on the demand for the product, we either place it within arm’s reach or higher up the shelves. This way we ensure efficient stacking for a faster order picking process.

Warehouse management system

As the TVs are stacked neatly next to the safety shoes and electronic spare parts, each individual item will be scanned by our staff. Thanks to our (brand-new) warehouse management system, we can inform our customers on the exact whereabouts of their products – accurate to the inch. No ‘location X’ or ‘location Y’ anymore, but all information including row and shelf number is available. Another advantage of the new warehouse management system is the absence of manual forms to discharge products. Now it’s just a beep away!

Safe and secure

We monitor every single product each step of the way. Whether it’s through labeling, scanning, or camera supervision. After all, we don’t want products to go missing in our 16.000m² warehouse. Something with a needle and a haystack. We also ensure a safe environment by limiting the access to our warehouse to just our 50 warehouse staff members. Are we all closed doors then? No, of course our drivers are more than welcome to check upon their load, but always prescheduled and under supervision of our trained staff.

‘Tip and tell’

Back to the TVs. Placing them in our easy access area seemed the right estimation: already before lunchtime we received the first sales orders and one of our staff members picked up some TVs with the reachtruck. The next step is the packaging and labeling area. The boxes are put on a pallet, scanned once again, provided with a pricing label and finally sealed with a wrap. To ensure safe travel, a so-called ‘tip and tell sticker’ will let the receiver know whether the pallet has tipped over or not. At the end of the day, the TVs are on the way to their destination. Ready to be sold and eventually display the next popular Netflix series in 4K resolution.
